I recently published a collection of twelve short stories on Smashwords. [Book removed 01/03/17].
The first three stories can be viewed free. The entire collection is $4.99, and available in a variety of formats.

Hey Mark, I’m psyched to read this, but given the techno-klutz that I am, I can’t seem to download it from Smashwords. Not sure what I’m doing wrong……and I will figure it out later when I’ve got more time. This is actually the first time I’ve ever tried to download something from them, and it’s made me realize that it’s still a pretty techy process and the average reader might not be able to overcome having to face choosing between E-Pub and html.
Thanks for letting me know you’re having problems. Like the blithely trusting writer I am, I didn’t actually try to download the docs to see if there were any potential glitches.
In any case, I’ll look into this more and post a follow-up here.
You’re also right about potential customer confusion. My assumption was that people coming to Smashwords would already be familiar with e-readers, and with the various document types, but of course that only holds if the audience remains small. As e-books and sites like Smashwords become more commonplace there are always going to be people who do not have the requisite tech familiarity. It may be that the site could profit from a ‘how to choose’ button somewhere on the download page.
Downloads seem to be working now.
If anyone using a Kindle has problems, please let me know, and check out the info at the end of this link:
