What I hope will be the first of many:
The American Association of University Professors is sending two representatives from its national headquarters in Washington D.C. to Iowa City to launch an inquiry into the search that landed J. Bruce Harreld as the next University of Iowa president.
The inquiry could lead to a full-blown investigation around whether the state Board of Regents breached the association’s values related to shared governance and the selection of administrators.
I guess J. Bruce Harreld was right. Institutions either go up or down.
We just didn’t know he was talking about the Iowa Board of Regents.

Administration at UIowa and the Board of Regents have already obfuscated the AAUP quest. http://www.press-citizen.com/story/news/education/university-of-iowa/2015/10/07/national-professor-group-conduct-inquiry-into-ui-search/73514872/
That encourages conspiratorial thinkers (like me) to suspect even more shenanigans.
Someone needs to tell these folk there is a proper way to handle damage control and another way that continues the bleeding.
I believe they should be petrified.
I’m also hoping nobody helps them with their public relations, because they deserve every nightmare that descends on them.
You don’t get to run off with a billion-dollar research university. You may think you do, but you don’t.
Hopefully they will be perpetually one step behind, always on defense, throwing out more and more ‘no comment’ responses.
